Wheelchair and power mobility billing
Billing for manual wheelchairs, power wheelchairs and scooters: face-to-face exams, detailed orders, home assessments and more.

How mobility equipment billing works
Power mobility devices require a face-to-face examination by the treating practitioner, a written order, a home assessment and, for Medicare, prior authorization before delivery for most power wheelchairs. Complex rehab wheelchairs also need a specialty evaluation and an assistive technology professional involved in the fitting.
Codes we bill every day
| Code | What it covers |
|---|---|
| K0001–K0009 | Manual wheelchairs |
| K0800–K0802 | Power operated vehicles (scooters) |
| K0813–K0891 | Power wheelchairs by group and type |
| E-codes / K-codes | Wheelchair accessories and options |
Code descriptions are summarized. Payer coverage and documentation rules vary by plan and state.
Denials we prevent
- Face-to-face exam not documenting mobility limitation
- Missing home assessment
- No prior authorization before delivery
- Accessories without medical justification
- Upgrades billed without an ABN
