OB/GYN billing for global maternity care and gynecology
Billing for obstetrics and gynecology: global maternity packages, split care when patients change providers, preventive gynecology and more.

How OB/GYN billing works
Routine obstetric care is billed as a global package after delivery, covering antepartum visits, delivery and postpartum care. When a patient changes practices or insurance mid-pregnancy, care must be split into antepartum-only, delivery-only and postpartum codes.
Codes we bill every day
| Code | What it covers |
|---|---|
| 59400 | Routine vaginal delivery, global care |
| 59510 | Cesarean delivery, global care |
| 59425 / 59426 | Antepartum care only, 4–6 and 7+ visits |
| 59430 | Postpartum care only |
| G0101 / Q0091 | Medicare pelvic exam and Pap specimen collection |
| 58300 | IUD insertion |
Code descriptions are summarized. Payer coverage and documentation rules vary by plan and state.
Denials we prevent
- Global OB billed when care was split
- Antepartum visits billed separately inside the global
- Insurance change during pregnancy not handled
- Preventive gynecology frequency limits
- IUD device billed without the insertion code or vice versa
